ASTM A500 structural pipe is a standard specification for cold-formed welded structural tubing produced to round nominal pipe sizes. ASTM A500 is the most common specification in North America for Hollow Structural Sections. Used for load-bearing structures that require high-yield strength, A500 steel comes in four grades — A, B, C, and D.

WALL THICKNESS: Minimum wall thickness at any point of measurement shall not be less than 90% of specified nominal wall thickness. Maximum wall thickness, excluding weld seams, shall not be more than 110% of specified nominal wall thickness. Wall thickness of square structural tubing and rectangular structural tubing must be measured at the center of the flat.
STRAIGHTNESS: Permissible variation in straightness for structural tubing is 1/8” times the total length in feet (or 10.4mm times the number of meters) divided by five.
SIDE SQUARENESS: For square structural tubing and rectangular structural tubing, adjacent sides may deviate from 90° by no more than ±2°.
CORNER RADII: For square structural tubing and rectangular structural tubing, the radius of anyone outside corner may not exceed three times (3x) the specified wall thickness.
TWIST: For square structural tubing and rectangular structural tubing, the tolerances for twist (variation with respect to axial alignment) are shown in the table below.

Octagonal Pipe
HYT specializes in two primary steel pipe manufacturing techniques: seamless and welded. Each method offers unique manufacturing processes and applications, ensuring we can meet the diverse needs of various industries.
Seamless Steel Pipes
Seamless steel pipes are manufactured through processes such as hot rolling, cold rolling, or cold drawing. These methods start with a solid steel billet, heated and formed under high temperature and pressure to create a tube without any welded seams. The main advantages of seamless pipes lie in their uniformity and strength, making them ideal for high-pressure, high-temperature environments, or other demanding conditions. Due to their seamless nature, these pipes exhibit higher integrity and resistance to cracking under internal and external pressures.
Welded Steel Pipes
In contrast to seamless pipes, welded steel pipes are produced through methods like Electric Resistance Welding (ERW), Submerged Arc Welding (SSAW), or Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welding (LSAW). These processes involve curling steel sheets or coils into a tubular shape and welding them at the seam. The advantages of welded pipes include cost-effectiveness and the ability to manufacture large diameters and thick-walled pipes, crucial for many structural and transportation applications.
